Founded in 2005, CineMia produces social justice driven documentaries with an intimate and human approach.  Based in Miami, FL, USA.

Director/Producer, Alexandra Codina:

Alexandra Codina’s directorial and producing debut, MONICA & DAVID, was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Informational Programming and won the Jury Award for Best Documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival.  The film has its world broadcast debut on HBO, has aired 33 countries and has been translated into 15 languages.  Alexandra has been featured on: All Things Considered (NPR), ABC.com, Newsweek, Variety, The Huffington Post, Aquí y Ahora (Univision), Harper’s Bazaar, Latina Magazine, etc.

The DVD for MONICA & DAVID sets a precedent with fully accessible content including audio description (for people who are blind or vision impaired) for all menus and video content. Codina is a Visual & Media Arts Fellow for the South Florida Cultural Consortium; alumnus of Tribeca All Access & The Good Pitch; and has received grants from The Fledgling Fund, Chicken & Egg Pictures and The James L. Knight Foundation.

She recently co-founded The Miami Filmmaker Collective to create community amongst local filmmakers.  Prior to her work as a filmmaker, Alexandra worked as Programmer and Outreach Manager for the Miami International Film Festival and worked as a freelance production and props assistant in New York.  She has an undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College in Maine.

Closely involved with the community, Alexandra was awarded the Community Builder Award by The United Way of Miami; Barry University’s Laudare Medal; and the National Media Award from the National Down Syndrome Society.  She is past Board Chair for Coconut Grove Cares and serves on the Alumni Council of the Women’s Fund of Miami-Dade. Codina was born and raised in Miami where she currently lives and works.
